What is this trickery?

We painted the bedroom on Tuesday.  I mean, balls-out, stripped wallpaper, moved furniture, got-paint-all-over-ourselves painted.

This must seem very mundane to, well, NORMAL, people, but I have nevereverinmylife ever a) picked out paint colors, b) purchased painting supplies c) painted a room or d) been tricked by the paint sample into thinking a color was a color, only to be surprised when it dried on the walls and turned out to be SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY.

The bedroom was formerly my parent's bedroom, and in the entire time they lived there they didn't paint or remove the funky ass wallpaper that was in that room.  I can't say as I blame them (after the chaos that ensued on Tuesday) but it was ugly.  I would even venture to say that it went beyond ugly to rip-my-eyes-out-of-my-head Fugly.

In the spirit of, well, finding some peace and being happy in my space, I thought it was high time that we did something to our bedroom to make it feel a little homier and prettier.  We picked out a light blue color for the top half, and we stripped the wallpaper off the bottom half and picked a burnt orange color (HA! that was a surprise and a half....) and we decided to leave the molding around the room to act as a room divider.

The burnt orange color turned out to be brick red.  It in no way resembled the burnt orange that I had picked out.  Not only was it a LIAR, but it turned out that I needed to paint, roughly, a bajillion coats of it on the wall so it didn't look all streaky.  Damn, people, I have trouble making my nail polish look even, so this was a challenge.

In the end it worked out, and after coming down from the paint fumes induced high I am pleased with the results.  My hands hurt, my back aches, my shoulders are sore, and my hands are peeling from being in water all day, but I feel SO MUCH BETTER!

Love it! I painted my entire house over the 8 months I was unemployed. It was also my first time ever painting anything. GOOD LORD, how my body ached. I got American Tradition paint and it was very true to the swatches when it dried.

You did a great job!

Tip: Use a tinted primer under a dark colour paint... it'll drastically reduce the number of coats required. This is because the primer is more opaque.

Looks nice! A while ago I saw some sheets at target the same colors that would look fab with the new cool walls!

Wow! I am so jealous! Your bedroom walls look great. I am ashamed to admit that every single room in our house has white walls. I've thought about getting all hormonal and repainting an entire room. It wouldn't matter, it'd be better than white!

Hey it looks great! I love the two-tone approach. Hmmm. Maybe I should think about doing something like that in my house...

You painted? Sorry I got distracted by the two frigin' precious beings on your bed.

Love the color combo. I tried to do a burnt orange in my kitchen for a warm rustic look. Talk about a helluva shock, who knew orange could be so electric. That's why it's now yellow, Bryan's choice.

That photo is adorable - it looks like Phoebe and Charlie are discussing something in-depth, like literature...or you know, legos.

Ohh, the cuteness! ;) I love the color...I have been thinging about painting our pad...but (as you mentioned) it's a lot of work...and I'm super lazy...so yeah. I'm not sure how great that would work out! LOL, plus I have an apartment...so I would have to paint it all BACK when I went to move too.Yours looks awsome though...I'm jealous (sp?). It looks very inviting.

I absolutely LOVE it. Seriously, I have always wanted to paint a room that shade of blue. And the red looks FABULOUS with it. It's so modern in a Dwell magazine kind of way, but warm and yummy. You rock. Wanna fly to Florida and paint my bedroom? ;)
