Oh, my mouth.

Over a week ago I went to the dentist to have some work done. I actually need a lot of work done, but I have to pay for it out of pocket, so we're doing bits at a time.
The bit last week was very expensive, and very hurty. It still hurts to chew solid food on the left side of my face. I wasn't in pain before I had work done, but am now. What's up with that? What's doing to happen when I have the right side done? Maybe I should invest in a really good food processor, and some straws.
I suppose I should be grateful that I had the $800 bucks to plunk down for it, and that it wasn't worse, and that the dentist was really nice, and that it wasn't worse (it could've been worse) but damn. I just want to be able to eat a piece of pizza without looking like a chipmunk. And I am so freakin' paranoid about losing a filling. Do you know how much those things cost?
But, it could be worse I guess.

i work in a dental office, & it's not normal for someone to still be in pain that long after a procedure. it could very well be that the restoration on the tooth (filling, crown, onlay, whatever) wasn't adjusted correctly, which could make your bite off-kilter, causing so much more pain than you would expect. or they might've gotten into the pulp of your tooth while cleaning out the decay & not told you. definitely bring it up with your dentist . . . you shouldn't still be in that much pain.
also, ask if the office has a guarantee on their work. most reputable offices have a 3-5 year guarantee as long as you come in for regular cleanings. then, at least you won't have to worry about losing the fillings that they've given you for a while.
Fillings suck. Drilling sucks. The whole Dentist thing sucks. That being said, it is far better to just take care of it than to let it go. So kudos to you for being a good girl and enduring. Whine all you want, I say you've earned it! Hope you feel better soon.
Hmm, I wonder if I should be worried? I'm not scheduled to go back in until next month, maybe I'll call them. I figured it was normal since they did *so much* work.
Thanks for the tip on the guarantee, too, I'll definitely look in to that!
I can really sympathize. I've had many mouth issues and surgeries this year. All out of pocket, which is extra special fun on top of the pain in your mouth. I hope you're feeling better soon. I know it takes awhile for the mouth to heal.
Dentists are evil people. I haven't been for a couple years, and I know I need to go again, but I'm scared. You're not helping me here.
I hope you feel better soon!
It has been a while since I had to have a filling (although that hasn't stopped me from having to have root canals... infinitely worse, trust me) but I don't remember being in ANY pain after a day or too, so I agree that this may not be all that normal. Maybe you should just give 'em a call and see what they say? Maybe they'll give you some drugs like me man!!
