Patterns, whee!

I just ordered some Oliver + S patterns for the girls.  I figured I've been drooling over them long enough, and just had to have them.  I think I collect patterns like some people collect shoes.  Or beer cans.  Or matchbook covers.  Or stamps. 

Of course, the weather has been insanely hot lately, but the day I order the tank top & skirt pattern?  It cools off.  Bitches.  I ordered this kimono pj pattern, how cute is that?  It goes down to 6 months, and I know, like, 800 people that are pregnant right now.  Maybe I'll be nice and make something fancy for all these impending bebes.

Now, I must away.  I promised this one chick I'd make her some napkins, and this other chick that I'd make her a dress.

Sewing.

The other day, I made new covers for the couch cushions.  I love them.  I need to get more of that material, and make a few more pillow covers for the non-matchy pillows.

Then, at Phoebe's request, I made her a new skirt.  Self-drafted pattern, with a pretty dang fancy pocket, if I do say so myself.  I have no idea how to make a "real" pleated pocket, so I just made it up.  The contrast of the pleat is the same material as the trim on the hem.  I told you it was fancy.

Then, at my request, I made myself a new shirt.  I love this pattern (Built By Wendy).  The shirt took me, like, 40 minutes from start to finish.  Please ignore the jaundiced look of my head, clearly I need more time in the sunshine.

Miscellany

I just found out that they're making a movie of The Secret Life of Bees (check out the trailer here).  I'm kind of excited, but know with absolute certainty that it will be nowhere near as good as the book.

Watching 30 Days, with Morgan Spurlock (the Supersize Me guy).  Awesome show.  My favorite episode is "Off the Grid."  Naturally.  I've looked into going to The Dancing Rabbit (from the episode), but it will most certainly have to wait until next year.  Think of all I could learn from a place like that, and it's only 12 hours away!

United Airlines suck donkey penis.  The Godmother had 18 different kinds of trouble on her flight out, and I called the "lady" behind the counter Forrest Gump (which, really, was too nice).  In my defense, this was AFTER she threatened to call airport security on me.  I might rant about it in a different post, but really, what could I say that everyone doesn't already know?  Airlines suck.  United in particular.  Word.

We went to the lake again this weekend, and it was the awesomest.  That lake is so beautiful, and the kids were swimming feet away from a couple of mallards.  If it weren't such a pain in my butt to get the boat loaded and unloaded I would want to go every single day.

I made myself a pair of shorts from the Built By Wendy pattern (Simplicity 3850).  First zip fly ever.  They rock my world.  I'm fer shure going to be making more, and the way Marissa is growing the pattern will probably fit her, too.  When the Godmother was here we made shirts from this BBW pattern, I just love them.  So easy, yet cute.  Pictures soon, probably.

I am a lucky, lucky girl

First, our used-to-be roommate came to visit us.  She came at the perfect time, and was here for my birthday.

Then, we went to Beckley, and the JoAnn's store there had Alexander Henry fabric.

I'm using this for a screen cover for Bryan's laptop, at his request.

This is for dresses for the littles, at my request.

And today, I reconnected with a friend that I haven't spoken to in, what... 15 years or so?  The last time I saw her was before I moved to California, my sophmore year in highschool.

We talked on the phone today for about an hour, and I still can't stop smiling.  She lives in Barcelona, so I used Skype to call.  (If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it.)  It was so good to talk to her again, and I hope we make it a monthly thing.

Soli bear
